When our eSports experts have important information or updates on individual players, injuries, match-ups, positions, or other specific aspects of a sport, they share it in a Spotlight. These articles provide in-depth analysis on how to reveal hidden value in the world of daily fantasy sports. This is where you will find key advantages that can launch your lineups to the top of your contests.
The LCS playoffs bring some interesting games for DFS, with a chance for some upsets and lots of points. This week it is only two matchups: Fnatic vs. Vitality in the EU LCS, and TSM vs. Cloud9 in the NA LCS and each matchup is best of 5. With that being said, this spotlight won’t necessarily focus on which teams will win, instead we look at the key players that you should put into your lineups. We will be looking at stats taken from the spring split to see how teams will play, and while there has been some time off and opportunities to change strategies we hope to see similar play styles from the spring split.
Cabochard (DK: $6,800): and Hjarnan (DK: $7,600): Both of these players have the highest KDA in the matchup between Vitality and Fnatic, and also have over 70% Kill Participation. Hjarnan also leads in kills while Cabochard is 3rd in overall kills in this matchup, and if Vitality gets a win both of these players will be picking up a good amount of points. Hjarnan may be riskier since he has potential to do well, he also has the chance of getting focused down during fights and not picking up many points. Cabochard on the other hand has shown that he can carry games, and is definitely one of the best top laners in the tournament right now. Cabochard is an absolute must-have for any lineup.
If you’re looking at Fnatic players, Febiven (DK: $6,300) is your best bet for points. Febiven is second in kills between these two teams, and has been averaging 28.2 points per game. If there is going to be an upset with Fnatic winning, Febiven will definitely be the one to pick up. Keep in mind this wouldn’t be a huge upset, Fnatic has played really well this tournament as well and has a real shot at taking down Vitality. Febiven is also cheaper than most other mid laners so if you’re looking to save some money then this is a great pick.
Cloud9 vs. TSM looks like it has higher potential for points than Vitality vs. Fnatic, so drafting several players from Cloud9, some cheaper picks from TSM, and saving a couple picks for key players from the EU LCS would be ideal. In the spring season TSM and Cloud9 were both in the top 5 for overall kills, and hopefully they will continue this streak and look for fights throughout the game.
For TSM Bjergsen (DK: $5,900) and Doublelift (DK: $6,000) should be your first pickups. These guys are monsters when they get off to a solid start–last time TSM and C9 met both scored over 30 points. These players lead TSM in kills and have over 73% Kill Participation each. If TSM is able to pull ahead in any of these games it will be because of Bjergsen and Doublelift.
If you’re looking at Cloud9, the team favored to win, consider Jensen (DK: $7,700) and Rush (DK: $6,800): Rush leads both of these teams in highest KDA, at 4.7, has 70.9% kill participation, and has third most assists. Rush has proven to be an aggressive jungler, and can definitely put his team ahead. Jensen has the most kills for Cloud9, and second highest KDA with over 70% kill participation. We have witnessed Jensen pick up a ton of points in games where Cloud9 pulls ahead, and with a best of five matchup, he has a lot of potential to show us some high-scoring games.
Renegades vs. Echo Fox (DK: Renegades: $4,200 Echo Fox: $5,100): Sunday’s matchup is between REN and FOX, and FOX is favored in this matchup. Echo Fox is currently 6-10 and sitting in 7th place in the NA LCS. Renegades, however, are currently 4-13 and sitting in last place in the NA LCS. In the last matchup against REN, FOX held a gold lead for 30 minutes while securing 12 kills along the way, while REN only acquired 4 kills and never held a gold lead once. Our research suggests, FOX should thoroughly dominate this game with their methodical style of play. In the past 2 weeks FOX has been on a dry spell after winning 4 in a row, so look for FOX to play in top form after correcting these mistakes. During this dry spell, FOX played the 1st and 2nd overall teams in the NA LCS, taking CLG, the 2nd place team, to a 40 minute game. We expect FOX to be playing fast and aggressive on Sunday. Once they’ve attained control of the game, FOX will continue to increase their gold lead and overall lead of the game. Expect FOX to bounce back this week against a weaker opponent and secure plenty of fantasy points.
Our favorite member of FOX is Froggen (DK: $7,400). Froggen has been playing in top form over the past 2 games. Froggen is third in KDA for mid laners in the NA LCS with 5.1, and he also has the third fewest deaths for with only 17 on the season. Froggen is looking like a good mid lane candidate this week and with his price he will surely exceed his value.
Renegades vs. Team Impulse (DK: Renegades: $4,800; Team Impulse: $4,500): This may be Renegades’ break to finally perform well. With recent roster changes they have definitely improved since the earlier weeks this tournament, and Impulse hasn’t been playing great recently. The two teams are similar in their win/loss record, and this could be a tight game with a lot of fights. Players are relatively cheap for both teams, which is good to save some money and possibly get a high amount of points. To maximize your points, look at these players to create a great lineup.
Freeze (DK: $7,200): Freeze is the first pickup you should get if you’re going to be betting on this matchup. Renegades have had some small success and a lot of it is owed to Freeze trying to carry his team. Against a matchup like Impulse, Freeze has potential to really go off and get a lot of fantasy points on Saturday. Freeze leads both teams in kills, and has 76% kill participation. If Renegades looks to fight this game, Freeze will be there to pick up the kills.
Seraph (DK: $6,400): We haven’t seen much of Seraph this tournament yet, but what we have seen has been some strong play. The funny thing is that Seraph actually subbed in for Team Impulse earlier on, but is now playing for Renegades. With Impulse he carried a 7.8 KDA, and now with Renegades he has a 10.7 KDA. If he continues to play as well as he has, he will be picking up a good amount of points on Saturday.
If you’re betting on Team Impulse Mash (DK: $7,000) is your best bet at getting points. He has one of the highest KDA’s for Team Impulse at 4.8. If Impulse gets their team on the same page Mash will be the one leading in fantasy points this game.
NRG Esports vs. Liquid (DK: NRG: $4,400 Liquid: $4,900): Sunday’s matchup between Liquid and NRG is going to be a close matchup. Liquid is 8-7 in the NA LCS and fighting for fourth place, while NRG is 7-8 in the NA LCS and fighting for 5th place. We expect this to be a tightly contested matchup between these two teams. Liquid is coming off of a dominate win against CLG. Liquid dominated all game, holding the gold lead all game. Liquid is looking very strong in recent weeks, so look for them to take advantage of NRG’s weakness and dominate every phase of this game. Overall, Liquid is coming off an amazing saturday game and is playing very team oriented. Look for Liquid to win a tightly contested matchup on sunday, and be a key pickup on any lineup.
Our favorite player from Liquid is Dardoch (DK: $6,200): Dardoch has been a solid jungler all year. He is second in total kills for junglers with 48. He is also first in kill participation with 77.7%, showing that he is the ultimate team player. Dardoch will likely be playing a carry jungler, so securing those kills won’t be a problem. Dardoch’s great mechanical play and synergy with his mid laner will be a key factor in this match. For this low of a price, we think Dardoch is likely to tremendously exceed his value this Sunday.
Echo Fox vs. Dignitas (DK: Echo Fox: $5,700 Dignitas: $3,600): Echo Fox wasn’t a team that you wanted to draft from a few weeks ago, but it has drastically improved. This week Echo Fox will take on Dignitas, which should be a relatively easy matchup for them. Two players that we highly recommend are Froggen (DK: $7,900) and KEITH (DK: $8,000). Both of these players have carried Echo Fox to victory plenty of times this year, as this weekend should be no different. Froggen, in particular, is an extremely valuable pick here. He has a 5.4 KDA and extremely high kill participation at 87.5%. If you’ve watched Echo Fox play, you might have noticed that they will feed kills to Froggen, so that he can carry them in the late game. This is perfect to obtain fantasy points. KEITH, on the other hand, leads Echo Fox in kills with 43. He also has high kill participation at 79.6%. If Echo Fox continues its trend of improvement and beats Dignitas on Saturday, KEITH and Froggen will be picking up a ton of fantasy points.
If you want to bet on the upset with a Dignitas win, pick up Shiphtur (DK: $6,100). Shiphtur leads Dignitas in kills with 48, and has a 4.3 KDA. Shiphtur has played well this tournament, but it will come down whether or not the rest of his team can help him pick up kills. With a Dignitas win, Shiphtur will be the one carrying them in kills and assists.
