Gregory Polanco (DK: $4,800 FD: $3,400): Polanco and the Pirates will welcome the St. Louis Cardinals for a Saturday night showdown. The Cardinals will be sending out hard throwing right-hander, Carlos Martinez. After a promising 2015 campaign, Martinez has experienced some ups and downs in what can be described as a roller coaster season. A lot of the struggles can be attributed to his inability to get out left-handed batters. Martinez has held right-handed batters to a 1.23 ERA on the year. However, lefties have been able to rough him up to the tune of a 5.73 ERA. Enter in Polanco, a left-handed batter, who has feasted on right-handed pitching over the course of his young career. During the 2016 season, against right-handed pitching, Polanco has posted a .310 BA, while leaving the yard seven times and driving in 31 runs. Polanco also rakes fastballs. This season, Polanco has produced 11.2 runs above league average against them. While he’s absolutely destroyed the fastball, he’s also faired well against the changeup, producing 3.6 runs above league average. How does that help Polanco? Well, let’s jump back to Carlos Martinez. During the 2016 season, Martinez has thrown the fastball 58.5% of the time, while throwing the changeup 19.8% of the time. With a little bit of basic math, we can see that 78.3% of the time Martinez is throwing a pitch that Polanco has had great success on. The combination of Polanco’s strong splits against right-handed pitchers and Martinez’s struggles against lefties could make for a dream matchup. Our research suggests Polanco is in a great position to do some serious damage today. Lock him in as a Must-Have.
