Kike Hernandez (FDraft: $6,600 DK: $3,300 FD: $2,000): Simply put, this man absolutely mashes left-handed pitching, and DFS websites never adjust his pricing when he is projected to start against a left-handed pitcher.
Kike Hernandez vs left-handed pitching:
Career: .374 wOBA, .257 ISO, 35% hard contact
Season: .399 wOBA, .361 ISO, 41% hard contact
Last Month: .434 wOBA, .434 ISO, 53% hard contact
For a player who is nearly the minimum or priced at a bargain depending on the site you play on, Kike is an absolute steal given his consistent success against left-handed pitching. Tonight, Kike will see a positive park shift as he will be batting in Chase Field, which is known as a tremendous hitters park. At Chase Field, Kike is a career .421 hitter with two home runs and an incredible 1.397 OPS which is his best mark at any ballpark.
Kike’s matchup with the lefty Anthony Banda is perfect to exploit as Banda has allowed 37% hard contact, 56% fly ball rate, and 10% soft contact which is the second worst mark of any pitcher on the slate. Lock Kike Hernandez is your lineup tonight with confidence.
Ryan Zimmerman (FDraft: $7,600 DK: $4,000 FD: $3,200): Here we have another player who is very underpriced for his particular matchup tonight. Ryan Zimmerman is a terrific hitter against right-handed pitching, registering 19 of his 26 homers against them with a .304 AVG. Tonight Zimmerman has a matchup with Dan Straily that we will look to exploit.
First off, Zimmerman and Straily both have drastic home/away splits:
Career Home: .362 wOBA, .192 ISO, 35% hard contact
Career Away: .341 wOBA, .197 ISO, 35% hard contact
Season Home: .431 wOBA, .299 ISO, 44% hard contact
Season Away: .353 wOBA, .255 ISO, 39.5 hard contact
Career Home: .301 wOBA, .216 AVG. 3.60 ERA
Career Away: .324 wOBA, .243 AVG, 4.60 ERA
Season Home: .288 wOBA, .228 AVG, 2.84 ERA
Season Away: .327 wOBA, .247 AVG, 4.76 ERA
Tonight’s game will be played in Washington, and as we examine the home/away splits above, this favors Zimmerman. To add on to this piece, Straily has pitched 11 innings in Washington and given up eight runs and two home runs.
Straily has also allowed a ton of hard contact in the past month at 37.6%, and Zimmerman has been crushing the ball against right-handed pitching with 41% hard contact the past month, 50% hard contact in the past two weeks, and 56% hard contact in the past week. It should also be noted that in the one plate appearance Zimmerman has had against Straily he hit a homerun.
Straily has been struggling recently as well, sporting a 5.06 SIERA, 5.30 xFIP, .333 AVG, and 17% K-rate. Straily is very vulnerable in this position tonight and research suggests Ryan Zimmerman is the perfect guy to take advantage of him.
