NASCAR heads to the “Tricky Triangle” this weekend to mark the halfway point of the season. Early on, we saw the Fords as the clear-cut favorites every week, but in recent weeks it seems the Toyotas led by Kyle Busch have cut the gap in between the manufactures. This weekend, we can put this to the test as Pocono has long straightaways that will showcase the horsepower of each individual car. With each of the three corners being different, we’ll see teams try to get a solid grip on two of the three turns in hopes to have a solid balance overall. In years past at this track, we’ve seen the field spaced out after restarts making it somewhat difficult to pass during the longer runs. Finding the right balance of dominators, place differential spots, and finishing position will be the difference in taking down GPPs or not.
Aric Almirola (DK: $8,200, FD: $9,100): Our daily fantasy NASCAR Must-Have of the weekend will roll off way back in the 34th starting spot after nearly wrecking in qualifying on Friday afternoon. Even though he did have a mishap in qualifying, Almirola showed top-15 speeds in the practice sessions, even flashing some signs of potential top-ten times. This season, Almirola has showed the benefits of the speed the SHR Fords have had all year long, consistently running inside the top-ten and challenging for top-fives seemingly every weekend. He should have no problem making his way well inside the top twenty, in which he should crush value at his reasonable price tag. Much like Harvick last week, he basically holds no downside, and while Harvick burned a lot of people last week, don’t let Almirola scare you for the same reasons. He is far and away the best place differential play of the weekend, which is the main reason we’re locking him in as our Must-Have of the weekend.
