Brayden Point (DK: $7,000 FD: $7,900): It’s a big opening night for the Tampa Bay Lightning as they get a dream matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks were among the worst in the NHL defensively last season, allowing 3.06 goals per game 16th in the league, but had the second-highest expected goals against. This means goaltenders Robin Lehner and Corey Crawford had to bail out the defense very often. This offseason the Blackhawks only got worse as star center Jonathan Toews and young superstar Kirby Dach are currently out with injuries. In addition, Robin Lehner was traded to Vegas and long-time goaltender Corey Crawford has retired. Malcolm Subban will now be their starting goalie and he is nothing like Chicago’s past decade of goalie play. In a little over 60 games with the Vegas Knights, Subban posted a 2.97 GAA and a sub par .899 save percentage. With a much worse defense in front of him now, he should struggle greatly. The Lightning led the league in goals last season, and were splattered all across the top of the offensive leaderboards. Point is the anchor to the Tampa Bay attack tonight, as electric winger Nikita Kucherov is out. Point was top 5 in expected goals for last season, and he abused opposing teams by creating high danger chances for the Lightning. He’s in a smash spot here, and his Lightning have an implied goal total approaching 4 goals, the highest on the slate. He’ll likely take on a higher attacking responsibility with Kucherov out, so he has extreme upside with an excellent floor. Lock him in at center for your optimal lineups.
