Week 1 in the NFL produced a few surprises, especially in fantasy football, where Alex Smith and Sam Bradford were the top fantasy quarterbacks of the week. This week, expect a few more surprises in what promises to be another unpredictable NFL week.
For those that enjoy fantasy sports, we have put together a list of the top quarterbacks to start this week, which should also give you some NFL betting tips for Week 2.
Kansas City vs Philadelphia
The fact that Smith finished first last week after having the seventh 300 yard passing game of his career screams avoid at all costs. However, that isn’t the case this week. Smith, who is ranked QB17 on FanDuel this week, is primed for another big game as he will be facing the Philadelphia Eagles, who have a pass defense that finished 26th in fantasy points allowed last season.
Even though the Eagles defense had a big game against Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins last week, they played an offense that lost most of its best weapons and is still considered a work in progress.
Smith threw far with a lot of accuracy last week, and in the preseason, head coach Andy Reid said he would be more aggressive on offense, so expect to see more performances like last week’s from Smith. The fact that Reid will be facing his old team also means he will be trying to stick it to them, making Smith a smart fantasy pick this week.
Philadelphia vs Kansas City
Like Smith, Wentz had a big game last weekend and is expected to have another one this week. Even though the Chiefs defense smothered Tom Brady on Thursday, he would have still had a big game against them if he threw some passes a little more accurately and if his receivers didn’t have as many drops.
Wentz has two capable weapons in Torrie Smith and Alshon Jeffery, who are capable of making big plays so I expect Wentz to take advantage and exploit some of the Kansas City defense’s weaknesses.
Arizona Cardinals vs Indianapolis Colts
After watching the Cardinals play the Detroit Lions on Sunday, I’m not very high on Palmer, whose best days are certainly behind him. However, the Cardinals are playing the Colts this weekend, which means I’m willing to bet on Palmer at least for one week.
Last week, the Colts defense made Jared Goff look like a Pro Bowler, finishing with 318 yards and 1 touchdown. With Palmer coming to town this week, I expect to see the Colts defense shredded again, especially after the Cardinals announced on Monday that running back David Johnson will miss some time with a broken wrist.
Buffalo vs Carolina
Taylor had another big fantasy day last week against the New York Jets. This week he will be facing a much tougher Carolina defense, but I still believe he will put up big numbers. Taylor’s ability to run opens up a lot of options for the offense and the Panthers tend to play down to the level of their competition so I expect Taylor to be able to find some open lanes to run and also find some open receivers.
Los Angeles vs Washington
After the show he put on against the Colts, Goff has another opportunity to have a big game against the suspect Washington Defense, which was torched by Carson Wentz last week.
